The snow-track „book“ cannot be read anywhere in Estonia any more.
The numbers of foxes are at a low-point – devastation done by scabies (mange). Beautiful and not at all timid foxes can be spotted by suburban walkers and by recreational sportsmen.
Mating time forces foxes to move around more, they are noticeably less cautious and the foxes that normally become active in twilight can now be seen even during mid-day. The pair of foxes is roaming on quite a large territory and the area is being marked by both the female and the male: rocks, logs, tree stumps, bushes are marked with urine and a specific tail gland secretion and this „fox scent“ is also noticed by the attentive forest roamer. Some intermittent barking can occasionally be heard from the territory.
