Yellowrattle

Yellowrattle     Väike robirohi        Rhinanthus minor

Greater yellowratttle     Suur robirohi          Rhinanthus angustifolius

The yellowrattles, semi-parasitic annual plants that belong to the Scrophulariaceae or figwort family, are flowering. To distinguish between them a rule of thumb will do: the yellowrattle is dark green coloured, the greater yellowrattle has a paler green look. The photos show that on the upper lip of the yellowrattles’ flower there is a tiny, darker coloured tooth. On the greater yellowrattle the tooth grows a little longer than on the yellowrattle.
The rare Saaremaa yellowrattle, Rhinanthus osiliensis, begins flowering later, in the middle of summer.
