Alvar at Saarnaki isle. Väinameri
The dropwort belongs to the rose family and is found in the undergrowth of alvar forests in places where the soil is more humid and fertile and lime-rich. Because of this it grows mainly in North Estonia and the Saaremaa alvars llme pine forests.
The angled rhizome of the dropwort, hidden in the soil and with thickened parts, is collected as a herb in autumn. The plant is a perennial, height up to three-quarters of a metre. The flowers are set in groups of six, diameter of a flower up to a centimetre and a half and from far off look cream-coloured.
Dropwort
Not yet fully open flowers in shady location are pink.
The aromatic tea made from the flowers has a calming effect and earlier used to be given, together with milk, to children who cried much.
