Green-veined whites
Grenn-veined white Naeriliblikas Pieris napi
Small white Väike-kapsaliblikas Pieris rapae
We meet the green-veined white in the whole of Europe, from the Mediterranean to the Arctic Ocean, being the most widely distributed species of our continent.
Undersides of wings – forewings pale yellow, on outer part sometimes a couple of dark patches. Undersides of the hind wings somewhat differently coloured – light and greenish yellow, the wing vein pattern only grey in the centre (on the spring generation they were clearly more noticeable).
Wing span up to 4 ½ centimetres and the wing fringes white as the upper wing surfaces, but the corners of the forewings are grey. Paler for the male butterflies and with only one barely visible patch on the wings. The wing corners of the females are darker and two dark grey patches are visible.
We can meet the green-veined whites nearly everywhere; it is a species of open landscapes; we see the imagos of the second generation until the end of September. With the dry and hot summer this year it will be no wonder if we towards autumn will see a not numerous third generation of green-veined whites.
