At Põõsaspea daily monitoring goes on. The weekend crowd was international as were the observed …
In the international birdwatching days, EuroBirdwatch 2014 on October 4-5, 40 countries from Europe and Central Asia took part.
98 observation lists from Estonian bird friends arrived to the Estonian Ornithological Society; as an estimate about 320 persons contributed in setting them up.
On the weekend more than 400 000 birds of 167 species were noted. In the longest list there were 111 bird species – this is a repeat of the record number for the birdwatching days.
Bird friends observing birds inland complained of the scarcity of birds, but at the coast the best migration days of arctic waterfowl happened to occur - thus the most numerous species were long-tailed ducks, barnacle geese, widgeons, scaups, and velvet scoters.
The most exciting species of the watching days were yellow-browed warbler, guillemot and hoopoe. Many migrating birds were seen that should already have left from here, e g white stork, black tern, redstart and others. In addition other exciting things were seen on the birdwatching days.
