For each person in Estonia there are 1,7 hectares of forest area.
The statistic survey Mets 2013 Forest 2013 recently prepared by the Keskkonnaagentuur (Estonian Environment Agency) contains comprehensive data on our forests, hunting, forestry and timber industry as well as on forestry education. In addition the yearbook contains an overview of international forestry statistics.
The Yearbook Forest 2013 is the most thorough survey of our forests and forestry. The figures demonstrate many interesting things. For instance the yearbook shows that in 2013 every Estonian citizen (population 1 320 174 individuals, data from the Statistikaamet (Statistics Estonia) as of 01.01.2013) there was 1,7 hectares forest land (forest land 2 233 900 ha in total) and 356 m3 timber (the entire reserve of timber 470 291 725 m3). On average, 211 m3 timber grew on one hectar of forest land.
The most forested county is Hiiumaa (forest 70,9%), on the mainland the most forested is Ida-Virumaa (forest 58,4%), least forested Tartumaa (forest 38,0%). The average forest coverage of Estonia is 50,6%.
