Brown trout           Jõeforell or hõrnas     Salmo trutta morpha fario

Brown trout females are sexually mature from their third year; their length is then above  twenty centimetres. Male fish are mature one year earlier and are at that time just under twenty centimetres. In camera view we see young trout (parr)  but also nice one-kilo specimens and even larger ones.

The overall colour of brown trout can vary quite widely - the back darker, sides covered with a light edging, red (there are more of them above the side line) and black spots. The males are as a rule darker coloured, in places ”pitch black” patches are visible on the body.  To the spawning period a slightly marked hook (kype) develops on the lower jaw.  Belly white, but a yellow colouring can also be seen. On the sides of some female fishes a bluish-silvery colour can be noticed. The female digs the spawning nest and thus determining the sex in the camera view is not very complicated.

The spawners are escorted by young and curious juvenile fish that the male fish sends off from the scene of action.

Who more can be seen in camera view: ninespine sticklebacks and caddisfly larvae, but we will introduce them in due time.
