Photo contest of the Animal of the Year: “Wild Boar – A Real Pig”

 

Journal Loodusesõber and Looduskalender.ee  open the photo contest “Metsanotsu – tõeline siga” (Wild boar – a real pig). We look forward to photos of encounters with the Animal of the Year as well as tracks of its activities. Photos of a sow with newly born piglets or of the tracks of a large boar that tells an interesting story are equally welcome. Brief descriptions should accompany the images; they will be commented by members from the Estonian Hunters’ Society and the Veterinary and Food Board in the Animal of the Year team.

 

The contest this year differs from the previous ones since Latvia also chose the boar for the 2015 Animal of the Year and also take part in the Loodusesõber and  Looduskalender.ee  photo contest. It will end in autumn with exhibitions arranged in both countries. The exhibitions will be displayed in late autumn in the Estonian Museum of Natural History as well as the Latvian Museum of Natural History.

 

For the authors of the best photos the prize will be: a day at the Alutaguse brown bear observation hut with nature tour arrangers www.360.ee, with the chance to photograph wild boar from the well-known photo shelter, a year’s subscription to magazine Loodusesõber and prizes from the Estonian Hunters’ Association and the Ministry of the Environment.

 

The uploaded photos will be public from the start and they will be used in the Looduskalender news as well as in magazine Loodusesõber. Photos can be uploaded on the home page of Looduskalender.ee, beginning on Thursday, January 29th.
