A great tit visitor – How are you doing?
During daytime on Thursday Klaara laid the first egg. On Friday we can probably expect the next egg in the nest, but then again maybe not until Saturday – time will show.
The eggs are round, reminding of ping-pong balls, dimensions about 40x47 mm and the nest bottom in the tawny owls’ home stays rather ascetic; but we have plenty of time to discuss these things.
Klaara has already started brooding (although we see an empty nest in the evening). As times goes on she will leave the nest less, and when four weeks have passed we can begin to wait for the first chick to hatch if all works out well – so from April Fool’s month on.
Male Klaus does not take part in brooding, he has only been seen a few times and his portrait has been shown. Klaus’ task is to feed his partner, it will be more difficult for the ”hunter” to feed the whole family in April.
Where then does Klaus spend his days when we see Klaara in the nest in daylight? His day is spent slumbering in some calm and sheltered place, maybe a dense spruce hedge. Sometimes quite openly on the top of some chimney that is not in use. In a large spruce he leans his body against the trunk to feel safer and more secure, and so a tawny owl blends into nature unnoticed by us.
