What to do when you meet a wild boar

For many years already we go to observe the boar piglets on the property of a fine hunter. 2014 we were there early and met these smallest ones

There is no animal in the Estonian forests that man must fear. The most dangerous creatures are possibly the ticks, but even they are not such a danger that they should keep you away from the woods.

Of course you have to know how to behave in a forest. If you come across a boar’s nest with piglets you cannot avoid meeting the sow. To start with you will hear an angry warning call. You are given notice that you are not expected – keep off. Secondly the sow shows herself to you trying to give as large an impression as possible.

If despite all this you decide to look closer at the nest a warning attack follows. The sow rushes towards you, turning off at 4-5 metres into the protecting thicket. Now is definitely the last minute to leave along the path that you arrived by.

If you follow the rules of forest life when you are in nature then not one of the wild animals will be a danger to you.
