The white-tailed eagle is the largest bird of prey in Estonia; the wing span of a fully grown bird can be 2,5 metres and the weight over 5 kilos. The upper and lower parts of an adult bird are dark brown, the head and the neck are pale brown with dark stripes, the entire tail is white, the beak is pale yellow and the feet are yellow.
The plumage of young birds is all dark brown.
Natural feeding grounds for white-tailed eagles are coastal areas with shallow water that is free from ice. The white-tailed eagles in Vilsandi can be seen in the grey seal monitoring camera. To the feeding ground in southwestern Estonia guests from Finland and even further away can be expected. Who watches will see.
Arne’s photo from last year is from the feeding ground and shows an adult and a young bird.
