Even before the willow catkin spring is here, it is worthwhile glancing at the snow fields when you are outdoors: is there something to take home for a vase? Higher on shore bank edges or elsewhere where the wind has got at the larger snowdrifts and blown them lower, you can for instance find the tough stalks of sneezewort and tansy, despite the snowstorms. And incredible, but from some seedheads of burdock tufts of soft down look out - the wind hasn’t scattered them yet.
A few sprigs of dark brown stalks feel somehow pleasantly in season in our otherwise rather tropically heated homes.
