The “Bloodless Hunt” each year focuses on different forest dwellers and the target this year was the pine marten. According to Jaan Mitt, in charge of hunting in the Anguse hunting district, Viru county and the large forests of the Anguse district are very well suited for pine martens and the probability of meeting the prey is high: the martens have given birth to their young. “The pine marten is very good as a subject for outstanding photos, because it is an animal with a mobile way of life. A folk saying says that the marten leaves as many tracks in one night as a riding horse during the whole summer”, Jaan Mitt added.
This year nearly thirty nature photographers were expected to the hunt. Participants are usually well known from photography or hunting. The photographers are aided and assisted by the Estonian State Forest Management (RMK) hunters and local huntsmen.
From the nature photos taken during the three days each participant chooses their ten best. From these in turn the jury selects the 50 most interesting photos which will be presented at the autumn photo exhibition in the Estonian Museum of Natural History. There too the winning photos will be announced.
The animal photo contest „Bloodless Hunt” has been arranged since 1997 by the NGO Bloodless Hunt, the RMK and the Estonian Museum of Natural History.
