Probably everyone watching the black stork was truly astounded when, during the brooder's leg-stretching time, there were five eggs visible in the nest! To date in Estonia, there is only one confirmed instance in of six eggs laid.
Also, during common nest monitoring work, a sixth egg (especially if broken in pieces) might go undetected by scientists. Moreover, during incubation periods, we try to leave the nest undisturbed and generally do not visit the nests at all.
Donna's behavior changed Sunday—she brought additional nesting material and placed it around her mate (see archive footage). This is the probably the sign of the end of the egg-laying period, though there is one known instance of seven eggs in Russia.
Like was written last year, the incubation period lasts 30-38 days, which means the new eggs could hatch in the middle of May.
