Raivo entered Israeli air territory in the evening of September 1, and spent the night in the only bit of forest in the Hula valley. For an overnight stay the small piece of forest in the middle of fields served well enough.
In general there are few forests around the Israeli fish ponds and the storks spend their nights mainly on power pylons and cliffs.
Although there are several fish ponds in the Hula valley to find food in, in the morning Raivo continued his flight to the Beit She valley 60 km to the south. There the fish ponds are familiar to him; this year is his third stay there.
Oss arrived in Israel about one week later, on September 6, and stayed for the first night at ponds that he knew, some twenty kilometres away. But on the morning of the 7th he continued his flight towards south and arrived at the fish ponds in Tirat Tzvi where he spent the whole last winter. If he does so this year too then we can say that our first black stork has arrived at its winter quarters.
