Maple flowers.

Nearly the whole week was 3-5 degrees colder than average and not until Saturday did it become warmer. On two mornings (Monday and Thursday) there was a strong frost on the ground, with up to 8 degrees of frost in the grass, ice on water puddles, even the soil surface frozen. On weekdays maximum air temperatures in daytime rose to 8-12 degrees. Sunny weather alternated with clouds, it was often raining. On Wednesday evening grains of snow fell. The weather turned truly warm on Saturday, when the air temperature went up to 24 degrees. In the later half of the day thunder could be heard in the neighbourhood and around six o’clock the rain reached Jõgeva. The thunder chased away the the summery warmth and on Sunday a chilly wind blew again, there were only 14 degrees of warmth.

Regardless of the cold nights the nightingale started singing already on Monday at Pedja river, and the bothersome flight time of mosquitoes started. During the week the wryneck, wood warbler, blackcap and house martin. As before flocks of flying geese were to be seen in the sky.

The  growth and development of plants was slow in the first half of the week, but picked up with the warmer nights at the end of the week. Marsh marigolds were in full bloom and the first flowers of the cowslips opened. Bushes began to go green. In addition to bird cherries birches, rowans and alders came into leaf, of foreign species the larches. Birch catkins spread their pollen, the flowering of maples started. Grass started to grow vigorously.

In the fields it was stone-clearing and spring sowing time. After the heavy rainfalls the fields became muddy on top for some time. Winter rye  began forming straws, winter wheat continued growing.

The weather has favoured planting of bare-root trees and bushes, and forest planting.
