The idea of making Looduskalender available in Spanish too was born last spring. David Llorente, from Spain but working in Estonia, contacted Looduskalender. He was planning to write about the Forest cameras in Spanish media and asked whether he could also do something for Looduskalender. David is firmly convinced that nature cameras are a perfect mode of introducing Estonia  - in the cameras our richly varied nature and high-level technology join forces, and both make for good publicity for Estonia abroad.
 

We started preparing a Spanish edition of Looduskalender  and on top of his busy international work schedule David translated the pages introducing the cameras and helped to set up the Spanish web part. Adding the new language was a natural thing to do since many visitors have come to the camera pages precisely from Spanish-speaking countries. From Spain for instance there are 7000 monthly visitors to Looduskalender.  That makes Spain  - apart from our nearest neighbours who keep a close watch on the cameras -  one of the most frequent countries of origins for viewers from abroad, and, seen phenologically, from outside our biological zone. Contacts with Spain are interesting also since it is a major migration area for Estonian migrating birds and the ornithological societies of our countries have close contacts.
 

We will follow visits to the newly-opened Spanish pages with great interest, and hope that the web will bring new friends and enthusiasts to Looduskalender, and from even more distant countries
