For the third night already Klaara no longer warms the owlets. Both parents have enough to do with feeding the ever-hungry children. The video shows that the fastest and most skilled one gets the prey from the parents: there is no sharing with the siblings. The ”black litter” on the nest bottom is owl pellets: mouse hairs, bones and teeth, or everything that cannot be digested: we have already written about it.
Between feedings the owlets try to be less cold by keeping together in a bunch; even so it is process that needs much energy, since night temperature are close to zero degrees.
As the video shows, there were still three chicks in the nest on Wednesday night – on Thursday evening they were only two.
