The beaver can survive in our climate only if it collects winter supplies. The food supply of beavers are branches – mostly willow branches which are fastened in the bottom of the water body in front of burrows or nest mounds.
From the size of the winter suppplies of beavers the coming winter has been predicted – if beavers have large stores there will be a cold winter. In order to predict the winter however the size of the water body and the beaver litter must be known. Beavers inhabiting different water bodies must prepare differently for winter.
